Web Audiences for National Newspaper Websites II: Quality of Audience
For some time there has been conversation about the need to look at the Quality and Engagement of audiences for media websites.
This article looks at one of the data items available via the Quantcast.com service, which segments your audience by loyalty. The free service can also identify which organisations and businesses are sending visitors to a website.
I look at the data for national newspapers, and also for this site and journalism.co.uk.
Testing a New Search Facility: Comments Welcome
I’m trying out a new search facility on the Wardman Wire from a company called Lijit.
The search facility uses the Google search results, but allows me to nominate a network of websites from which an alternative set of search results are selected - so the service incorporates features of social networking websites into the site-search.
I have set up some of the other contributors to the Wardman Wire as my “network”, and I’d be interested to hear what you think.
You can find the search box at the bottom of the sidebar on the blog version of the site.
US Presidential Election: Talk about “Landslides” does not help anyone
The US Presidential Election victory is being characterised as a “landslide” victory by Barack Obama over John McCain. The margin of victory in the popular vote was
This landslide was won by 52.3% to 46.4% in votes (compared to 349 vs 162 for delegates), as reported by the BBC at 2pm on Wednesday 5th:
However, at 1100 GMT, Mr Obama’s share of the popular vote stood at 52.3%, compared with Mr McCain’s 46.4%.
However you slice it - that is not a landslide. It is a difference of less than ten million votes from 130 millions cast - under a thirteenth.
USA Election 2008 “Live Blog” Roundup of Independent Blogs
A number of blogs Live Blogged developments during US Election night, some using the Cover it Live application.
One of the advantages of Cover it Live is that you can embed it anywhere - so I thought I’d put them all in one post for posterity.
I have also listed traditional Live Blogs that I know of at the top. If you are aware of any more, please drop a note in the comments and I will add them.
Surely there has to be more to live blogging than embedded chatrooms? How can we use video, for example?
US Election Coverage on the Wardman Wire
We haven’t covered the US Election as exhaustively as some sites.
As a one-off I’ll be running the Politics Home US Presidential Election infobox in the sidebar from teatime on Tuesday until Webnesday morning (if they don’t object or turn it off for “outside” websites), which means I will be able to go to bed. You can see the box in the sidebar of pollster.com.
